Tom Hiddleston and Mark Hamill Are Teaming Up for a Stephen King Adaptation
Tom Hiddleston and Mark Hamill are teaming up for a brand-new Stephen King adaptation, Deadline reports.
The two actors, who are best-known for their roles as Loki and Luke Skywalker respectively, will star in Life of Chuck — a short story from King’s anthology If It Bleeds, The Life of Chuck. It will be directed by Mike Flanagan, who previously helmed Doctor Sleep and The Haunting of Hill House.
Originally released in 2020, the anthology contains four novellas, with The Life of Chuck split into three acts moving in reverse chronological order. It depicts various parts of the titular character’s life as he reckons with the inevitability of death and other themes.
It will be the latest adaptation of King’s work, which has been shown on film and television dozens of times over the years. The Life of Chuck will have plenty in common with King’s other movie, especially Stand By Me and The Shawshank Redemption.
According to Deadline, the script was adapted prior to the beginning of the current writer’s strike, with Hiddleston playing the title character and Hamill playing the character’s grandfather, Albie.
Hamill has been busy of late, appearing in several Star Wars productions as well as What We Do in the Shadows and The Machine, an action comedy film set for release later this year. Hiddleston, meanwhile, continues to find plenty of work as Loki.
The Life of Chuck does not yet have a release date.
