What to Expect From Capcom Cup X
The Capcom Cup X’s main goal is to find the greatest Street Fighter 6 player in the world, and that skilled fighter will win $1 million of this year’s $2 million prize pool. However, the road to victory won’t be an easy one.
It all begins with the Capcom Cup X – Last Chance Qualifier which is an offline tournament where up to 512 players from around the world will compete for the last spot for the Capcom Cup X’s 48 combatants. The other 47 spots will be filled by winners of other Capcom Pro Tour champions from Online Premiere (18 tournaments for 18 spots), Offline Premier (3 tournaments for 3 players), and the World Warrior (156 tournaments for 26 players).
Once the 48 players have been set in stone, they will all battle it out in the Capcom Cup X – Group Stage Elimination. This phase of the tournament will see groups of 6 players divided into eight groups by a drawing. The 1st and 2nd place winners of each group will advance to the finals, meaning the top 16 players will get the chance to fight for the cup itself.
On February 25, those 16 players who won the Group Stages will fight with the whole world watching, all for the right to call themselves the best Street Fighter 6 fighter in the world.
As if that wasn’t enough, the Street Fighter League: World Championship 2023 will also be taking place during the event on February 24 and will see the top three teams from Japan, the United States., and Europe fighting against each other to earn the title of the world’s best team for this season. Oh, and they’ll all be competing for a prize pool worth $150,000.
As for what else to expect, there very well may be some announcements for Street Fighter 6 itself, including new characters or some other surprises.
Speaking of Street Fighter, the franchise itself is the #1 all-time fighting series in terms of sales with over 50 million copies sold. As for Street Fighter 6, it has already broken 3 million copies sold.
In our Street Fighter 6 review, we said the game is “the most feature-rich a Street Fighter has ever been at launch, but even beyond that, its roster of 18 characters is excellent, the new mechanics revitalize the one-on-one fighting formula, and it absolutely nails all of the little things that make for a stellar fighting game.”
